This November, Question 3, an initiative that attempts to ban dog racing here in Massachusetts, will be on the Bay State ballot.

This particular measure is sponsored by Grey2K (the same group of national animal rights fundraisers who failed to ban dog racing in a similar attempt in Massachusetts in 2000), and the MSPCA, an organization whose job is to investigate and prosecute all forms of animal cruelty.

The backers of Question 3 are part of a fundraising machine that operates by putting initiatives and referenda on the ballot, moves from state to state, enlists local support and raises money.

The facts about Greyhound racing at licensed tracks in Massachusetts are not open to serious dispute. Question 3 will put people out of work, permanently, in the State’s already faltering economy – at least 1000 full and part time workers in a state with already high unemployment figures for college graduates and other displaced professionals.

To ensure the welfare of all dogs, in Massachusetts racing greyhounds are under the constant supervision of the state police and under the care of certified veterinarians. As a result of the dedicated and faithful oversight of the state police and veterinarians, there has never been one documented case of dog abuse in any licensed track in Massachusetts.

The industry has a 100% placement rate for putting retired racers into adoptive homes.
